Marilyn Mural Restoration

The Marilyn mural on the south façade of Salon Roi in Woodley Park has just completed a restoration sponsored by a grant from DC Department of Small and Local Business Development to Woodley Park Main Street, Deoudes-Magafan Realty, Inc, and the Woodley Park Community Association (WPCA).  A dedication ceremony was held on October 17, 2020.

The iconic mural was originally painted by John Bailey in 1981, commissioned by Charles Stinson for his partner Roi Barnard in honor of his 40th birthday.  The first restoration was sponsored by the WPCA and performed in 2001 by John Bailey, who passed away in 2019.

The latest restoration was performed by Kevin “Jazi” Irvin with assistance from Andrew Funk and Pipkin Creative.  A story about the restoration recently appeared in the Washington Post.

You can read about the history of the Marilyn mural in this blog post from a local resident in the Woodley Park Main Street News.
