The 2020 census reveals some interesting information about those of us who live in the two census blocks that make up our neighborhood.
First, there are 7247 of us. That’s 532 more than in 2010, an increase of almost 8%.
The under-18 population grew from 581 to 805, from 8.6% of the total to more than 11%. The over-65’s grew even more – from 682 to 1114. Thus, the number of 19 to 64 year-olds actually decreased from 5452 to 5328.
It will come as no surprise that neighborhood is overwhelmingly white, 76.3%. But that’s down from almost 85% in 2010.
The census reports that there are 80 more housing units in the neighborhood than in 2010. That seems odd in that there are more than 80 units in the Wardman Tower (32 units) and 2700 Woodley Road (120 units), which were added after 2010.
