WPCA Provides Forum for Connecticut Ave Redesign Input

Connecticut Ave is one of Washington DC’s great main streets.  The WPCA organized a meeting in July 2020 with DDOT as it was undertaking what it termed its Connecticut Avenue Reversible Lane Safety and Operations Study.  Among other things, the DDOT staff was instructed to make a recommendation as to whether or not to eliminate the rush-hour reversible lanes and proceed with the construction of a protected bicycle lane.

In February 2021, the WPCA invited DDOT representatives to present at the General Membership Meeting about the proposed designs for Connecticut Avenue.

On December 15, 2021, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the redesign of Connecticut Avenue NW, including the removal of the reversible rush hour lanes and the addition of one-way protected bicycle lanes on the east and west sides of the roadway.

Completion of the final design is expected to take 18 months.
